  • Flow monitoring: Daily flow rate, weekly flow rate, K-factor
  • Logged events include: zone, channels, recipe used, start and end times, volume delivered
  • Multiple nutrient recipe management and editing from cloud interface
  • CPS (chemical per stroke) support (if implemented)
1. What is the Link4 Combination Motor Starter?

A combination motor starter is an all-in-one unit that includes:

  • A contactor to start and stop the motor
  • Overload protection to prevent motor burnout
  • Control power components ready to connect to your signals

Everything comes pre-assembled in a single enclosure. It safely starts and stops any non-reversing 3-phase motor while protecting it from overcurrent damage. This is ideal for greenhouse fans, irrigation pumps, cooling systems, and more.

2. What makes this different from a standard motor starter?

A standard motor starter often requires external control boards, separate overload relays, and significant field wiring. The Link4 combination motor starter simplifies this:

  • Pre-wired internally — no field wiring between components
  • Built-in 24VAC control power — works with sensors and automation signals out of the box
  • HOA (Hand / Off / Auto) control included — no extra switches or panels needed
  • Overload relay included — protection is built in, not bolted on

The result is faster installation, fewer errors, and less time troubleshooting.

3. What motors can the combination motor starter control?

This unit is designed for any non-reversing 3-phase motor, including, but not limited to:

  • Ventilation and exhaust fans
  • Pumps and compressors
  • Conveyors and material handling equipment
  • Cooling and HVAC units
  • Irrigation and fluid transfer motors

If it’s a 3-phase motor that runs in one direction, this starter can control it.

4. What amp ranges are available?

We have 6 standard units, which cover motors from 0.63A to 8A. Higher amp ranges are available on request for larger loads. Contact Link4 to discuss sizing for your specific application.

5. What does HOA (Hand / Off / Auto) control do?

HOA control gives you three operating modes in one selector switch:

ModeWhat It Does
HandRuns the motor manually — useful for testing or override
OffStops the motor completely
AutoRuns based on an external signal — dry contact, timer, or sensor
6. Does it need a separate control panel to operate?

No. The combination motor starter is designed to operate standalone. Built-in control logic handles basic start/stop operation without any external controller. For simple, single-motor applications, it works right out of the box.

7. What motor protection is included?

Every unit includes a thermal overload relay that:

  • Continuously monitors the motor’s current draw
  • Trips automatically if the motor exceeds its rated current for too long
  • Prevents motor burnout, winding failure, and unplanned downtime

It’s the same protection found in industrial motor control centers built directly into the enclosure.

8. What control voltage does it use?

The Link4 Combination Motor Starter runs on 24VAC. It’s safer for technicians and compatible with most common automation signals.

9. Is it suitable for harsh or demanding environments?

Yes. The enclosure is rated NEMA 4X, which means it handles:

  • Dust and particulates
  • Water spray and washdowns
  • Corrosive atmospheres

NEMA 4X is one of the highest ratings for electrical enclosures and is appropriate for industrial, agricultural, food processing, and outdoor applications.

10. Can it be installed outdoors?

Yes. The NEMA 4X enclosure is weather-resistant and rated for both indoor and outdoor use, including exposed pump stations, rooftop units, and open-air equipment installations.

11. What input voltages does it support?

The combination motor starter supports standard 3-phase systems at:

  • 208V
  • 220V
  • 480V

This covers most commercial and industrial electrical systems across North America.

12. Can I monitor or control it remotely?

Yes — when connected through the Link4 system, you can:

  • Receive real-time alerts if the motor trips or goes offline
  • View run history and usage logs
  • Manage multiple motor starters across different sites
  • Control equipment from a single centralized dashboard

This is particularly valuable for facilities running multiple motors across large or multi-site operations.

13. Do I need special electrical training to install it?

Installation is straightforward because the internal components are already factory pre-wired. You only need to connect:

  • Incoming 3-phase power (208V, 220V, or 480V)
  • Motor leads (to the load terminals)
  • Control signal (24VAC or dry contact)

A licensed electrician should always handle final power connections, but the pre-wired design cuts installation time significantly compared to field-assembled starters.
